Ryder System Technical Lead – IT BI&A Information Delivery in NOVI, Michigan

Position Description

The BI&A Information Delivery Technical Lead position provides specialized technical expertise associated with the MicroStrategy suite of tools and Microsoft SSRS within a data warehousing/business intelligence/analytics environment. This individual provides technical consulting and technical leadership on projects. As part of the Ryder team, the BI&A Information Delivery Technical Lead performs a variety of job functions including, but not limited to, business requirements analysis, data analysis, development architecture and naming standards, MicroStrategy schema and reports/visualizations development, SSRS reports development and administration, testing (unit, system and user testing support), integration, tool performance testing, scalability, design documentation, migration planning, upgrade and implementation planning, as well as acting as liaison with the vendor. The incumbent will also mentor other team members on MicroStrategy & SSRS and recommended best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, management information systems, engineering or related experience

  • Master's degree in information technology or engineering preferred

  • Four (4) years or more of experience in MicroStrategy schema development, report development, dashboards and visualizations is a must have

  • Five (5) years or more of experience in enterprise data warehouse environment

  • Two (2) years or more of experience as a team lead

  • Four (4) years or more of experience in Dimensional Models design and implementation

  • Four (4) years or more of experience in advanced SQL scripts

  • Two (2) years or more of experience in Microsoft BI Suite, particularly SSRS and Power BI preferred

  • Two (2) years or more experience in production support

  • Ability to:

  • Map business decision making processes to business requirements that can be implemented in a reporting/analytical solution

  • Articulate and document these clearly and un-ambiguously to the team members for technical implementation

  • Communicate with various levels of management on a business and technical level including the ability to express complex technical concept in business terms

  • Proactively design the processes, keeping in mind the strategic objective and long-term scalability of the application

  • Operate as part of a cross-functional project team

  • Multi-task between two to three (2-3) projects simultaneously

  • Provide leadership and instruct/mentor others

  • Strong organizational management skills

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Strong problem-solving and application control validation skills

  • Demonstrated expertise with MicroStrategy and SSRS, preferably in a technical lead type position (advanced level)

  • Thorough knowledge of Business Intelligence and analytics environment (advanced level)

  • Thorough understanding of data warehousing and analytics theory and best practices (advanced level)

  • Knowledge of, and familiarity with, data warehousing relevant technology, tools, and middleware critical (advanced level)

  • IT experience with a variety of technologies supporting the full software development life cycle, including analysis, design, development, installation, support and modification (advanced level)

  • Broad conceptual knowledge of information technologies and methodologies in mainframe, midrange, and PC computing environments (intermediate level) desirable

  • Knowledge of project management and business analysis techniques required - cross-functional experience (intermediate level) highly desirable

  • Other Certifications in multiple systems (MicroStrategy, SAS, Cognos, Informatica), software languages and/or database platforms (Green Plum, Netezza, SQL Server) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Gather requirements from business users, design, build, and support MicroStrategy & SSRS solutions

  • Work as part of a team, organizing, planning, and executing large-scale projects or assignments from vision to implementation

  • Lead analysis, design, technical guidance, and impact analysis on projects

  • Ensure that design meets functional requirements and performance expectations

  • Conduct structured design sessions and/or walk-through design sessions with customers/Ryder IT teams

  • Partner with ETL Lead and other project team members to identify and understand source systems to meet business requirements.

  • Participate in coding/testing components of the project

  • Participate in system migration planning. Share responsibility with other team members to ensure on-time product delivery or satisfactory application development and/or support

  • Design or participate in design and/or review of logical and physical data warehouse models

  • Develop technical and business relationships, consult on business user’s needs, potential solutions, proof of concepts and other demand management tasks to identify opportunities to provide services to our stakeholders

  • Foster relationships with other departments to ensure successful implementation and support of project efforts when support is needed

  • Administer the MS SSRS tool

  • Consult as the technical SME for the MicroStrategy and SSRS tool

  • Participate with other IT members, customers, and other stakeholders in new product reviews, tests and pilots. Possess good coaching and consulting skills

  • Identify conflicting business practices and integration issues, and suggest alternative solutions

  • Perform feasibility studies; translate requirements into an appropriate design

  • Maintain accuracy of design documentation

  • Collect, document metadata and follows company metadata standards

  • Foster team commitment to tasks through solid teamwork and interpersonal skills

  • Foster and maintain good relationships with customer and IT colleagues to meet expected customer service levels

  • Familiar with project management techniques and may lead projects, sub-projects or provide project administrative support (will not have direct project leadership responsibility)

  • Perform other duties as assigned
