The Director Continuous Improvement leads, manages and drives the development of the Ryder Continuous Improvement culture across the Business Unit/Vertical by actively promoting and facilitating the use of continuous improvement methods. They will drive change through focused CI efforts to higher levels of performance in safety, quality, performance, cost and growth each and every day. Effectively utilizing lean and engineering methodologies, tools, root cause analysis and waste reduction with a bias for action, this high influence position will interface with employee at all levels and various functions across the business and within a facility. This position directly reports to the Group or Senior Director of CI with dotted-line reporting to the assigned VP of Operations (Business Unit/Vertical). This individual must possess a willingness and desire to work directly with his/her peers and their direct reports in the business units to define and set a strategy for engineering efforts and continuous improvement activities for new and existing operations.
Directs continuous improvement program and oversees engineering support functions consisting of slotting, layout & design, labor management systems, data analysis, material flow analysis and resource modeling. Establishes and leads cross-functional teams to improve overall quality/process improvement; may include collaboration with customers. Coaches and provides support to key leaders to assure understanding and acceptance and use of continuous improvements processes.
Aligns CI initiatives and project objectives to business strategy and prioritizes projects accordingly; includes key stakeholders in process, as required. Facilitate strategic planning (vertical blueprinting) and tactical process improvement events. Lead cross functional team to identify improvement opportunities and works with leadership to prioritize & plan initiatives. Present to executive leadership team on status and results of continuous improvement initiatives. Participate in regular business review session with VP of Operations, SCE team and Customers
Manage a team of continuous improvement managers , make employment decisions (hire, promote, coach, development) and performance management. Manages multiple and complex Supply Chain projects. Regularly interacts with Senior Management and/or customer. Creates workforce and staffing plans and ensures availability of human capital necessary to accomplish planned business results. Responsible for developing employees and deploying engineering and lean methods business unit-wide to move the culture to adopt those methods to increase labor productivity and efficiency while focused on improving the individual business unit’s production throughput
Coaches, mentor, trains and provides support to SCE team members and operational resources to assure understanding and acceptance of continuous improvements, engineering, and Lean processes, methods, best practices and tools. Develop SCE individuals to become change agents, experts in lean and sought-after resources. Provide formal and informal training, coaching, mentoring to Ryder employees: must be able to translate Business System concepts to local situations and help individuals and teams progress in understanding and correct application for sustainable business improvements. Assisting and/or leading the execution of Lean Assessments
Work with vertical leaders to establish continuous improvement goals, and act as a liaison with finance to build continuous improvement budgets and validating actual improvement results. Develops, deploys and maintains account plans for assigned process areas designed to continually improve service offerings through the implementation of recognized engineering, quality, lean standards, continuous improvement strategies and demonstrated best practices. Manage monthly budget review process and financial reconciliation. Interfaces with senior level management to establish standard quality communications and action oriented forums (reviewing /analyzing operational performance, deploy policies and strategies, share best practices)
Serve as the business owner, establish and regulate the standards for Quality Management Systems based on company and/or industry standards. Oversee internal auditing to ensure regulatory compliance and certification. Facilitate regular Performance Reviews with operations leadership and monitor metrics. Develop/implement strategy to manage scope and meet customer expectations. Support business start-ups, retrofits and expansions including pricing inputs, go-live and steady state certifications. Manage the design, implementation, monitoring and maintenance of the QMS based on established company and/or industry standards. Implement and monitor a standardized corrective action system. Support regulatory compliance and certification requirements. Oversee all functions related to Quality Assurance for a start-up or expansion

Skills and Abilities
LEAN: Mastery with: Creating Cell Designs, Managing Material Flow, Design Plan for Every Part Systems (PFEP), Setting up/operation of Kanban, Supermarket Systems Pull Systems, Lean Mfg Systems, Developing and most important managing to: Leader Standard Work, Visual Management Systems and Management Accountability Systems, Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA), Kaizen Facilitation
Warehouse Engineering: Mastery with: Product Slotting, Distribution Center MHE, Studying Labor Standards (time studies), Distribution Layouts and optimization of flow, Warehouse Metrics, Headcount rationalization and forecasting, Data Profiling, Working with ambiguous data sets and customer requirements to develop a Supply Chain Solution, WMS Functionality and Processes required to implement engineering designs/solutions/proposals Aptitude to learn a new business and systems
Effective interpersonal skills, Builds and manages effective teams, System and change implementation skills, Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of the organization (peers, work groups, customers, supervisors), Ability to work independently and as a member of a team, Flexibility to operate and self-driven to excel in a fast-paced environment, Capable of multi-tasking, highly organized, with excellent time management skills
Bachelor's degree required in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain Bachelors Degree or minimum of 16 years relevant work experience
Master's degree preferred in Supply Chain Management or Industrial Engineering Bachelors Degree / Master's degree MBA
Minimum of fourteen years of related experience in the Distribution, Warehousing and/or Manufacturing, Transportation, Supply Chain Logistics industry is required. required

Lean, TPS, QMS preferred
American Production Inventory Control Society (APICS) and/or Supply Chain Logistics Certification is preferred
