Ryder System Sr. Lease Accounting Analyst in MIAMI, Florida

Position Description

The Sr. Lease Accounting Analyst assists the Lease Accounting Group in the monthly accounting for operating and capital leases as lessor and lessee, preparation of related monthly, quarterly and annual reports, and preparation of monthly and semi-annual lease payments to outside banks and lessors. This individual plays key role in companywide adoption of FASB topic 842, Leases

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting

  • Master's degree, CPA or MBA, with emphasis in accounting highly preferred

  • Three (3) years or more of broad experience in public accounting or a large corporate environment

  • Ability to:

  • Familiarity with accounting for operating and capital leases as lessor and lessee for new accounting adopted 1/1/19 [ASC 842] (beginner level) preferred

  • Experience reconciling complex balance sheet accounts including research & resolution of variances (intermediate level)

  • Proficiency in use of Excel spreadsheets including IRR & NPV functions, linking of spreadsheets, and set up of pivot tables (intermediate level)

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred

Responsibilities

  • For existing capital leases as lessee, prepare monthly entries to book interest and depreciation expenses, prepare monthly roll forward reports, quarterly maturity schedules, and monthly account reconciliations

  • Gather relevant data on new equipment leases and prepare classification tests as lessee; maintain audit trail on those leases to be accounted for finance leases

  • For capital leases as lessee, set up obligation and amortization schedules and ongoing accounting

  • For operating and finance leases as lessee, set up ROU schedules in the CoStar accounting software.

  • For secured REE financings, prepare semiannual payment requests including payment of early terminated vehicles (sales or casualties) and provide backup to lessors/banks

  • Evaluate embedded leases in GPS (Teletrac and Peoplenet) subscriptions; identify those requiring capital lease accounting, update database, book capital lease adds as lessee, and reconcile detail reports to GL

  • As lessor, monitor Direct Finance Leasing System (sales type leases) and adjusting entries posted to GL; as needed research and confirm accuracy of unusual transactions including gain or loss of sales type leases, write down to FMV on early terminations and booking of modifications. Reconcile related Balance Sheet accounts to detail reports and prepare related quarterly and annual disclosures

  • For expiring REE secured financings and leases, prepare buy out analysis for senior management review and approval, submit notifications to lessors/banks and coordinate physical payments and recording of pay offs; for new REE secured financings, work with IT, Treasury & VA to finalize pool of vehicles and values, gather backup documentation needed by lenders, ensure funding on timely basis and reconcile to received funds; set up ongoing accounting including obligation schedules and load detail in database to track early termination sales/casualties

  • Prepare monthly lease payment requests & provide backup to lessors

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Back up Senior Lease Accountant and ESP financing analyst on tasks they perform

  • Participate in projects and prepare special reports and analysis as requested by senior management
