Ryder System Insurance Operations Manager in MIAMI, Florida

Position Description

The Insurance Operations Manager will be responsible for managing Ryder's North American Fleet Management Solutions rental and lease insurance extension underwriting team including hiring, training, career development and performance feedback. Oversees underwriting process and workflow. Assists in the underwriting and marketing of the lease insurance extension program. Handles complex underwriting issues and escalations. Additionally, this position is responsible for assisting Director in the identification of exposures, recommends solutions, promotes loss prevention and monitors compliance with best practices, procedures and guidelines



  • Bachelor's degree with concentration in Risk Management, Insurance or Finance preferred

  • Master's degree MBA, with concentration in Finance preferred preferred

  • Five (5) years or more working in an insurance or claims environment

  • Two (2) years or more relevant management experiences

  • Three (3) years or more relevant insurance knowledge

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Builds and manages effective teams

  • Ability to:

  • Create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of the organization (peers, work groups, customers, supervisors)

  • Effectively interact and influence Field operations management and sales

  • Flexibility to operate and self-driven to excel in a fast-paced environment

  • Knowledge of insurance and underwriting practices; advanced level

  • Adjuster License preferred


  • Direct all day to day activities of the Insurance underwriting team including work flow management and ensure guidelines and deadlines are met. Manage assigned staff to ensure both technical expertise and a high level of customer service are attained

  • Prepare Ryder Protection Advantage (RPA) insurance extension quotes for assigned areas

  • Work with Fleet Risk Services (safety support), underwriters and sales on loss control and support new and existing customers to improve their safety and insurance losses

  • Provide approval/disapproval on escalated insurance deals. Communicate decisions to management, sales, customers and operations as required

  • Monitor insurance product line performance to ensure performance goals are met and take corrective pricing action when appropriate. Participate in planning of staffing requirements with Director, hiring, work plan development, employee training and professional development

  • Review financial and operational results, conduct underwriting file reviews and audits, coach and take corrective action when appropriate

  • Participates in underwriting strategy discussions and executive reviews on insurance deals

  • Support in maintaining and meeting the budget for the Insurance Product Line

  • Provide new hire sales training and on-going training webinars on the insurance offerings

  • Perform other duties as assigned
