Position Description

The Outbound Warehouse Manager, manages the outbound activities within the Distribution Center operations. Works closely with the D.C. Manager to understand and support the achievement of the facility goals for cost, quality, and safety.

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Responsible for Outbound Shipment Operations and staffing. Meet all delivery departure dates and times, Drive the budget line of overtime, wages and shrink.

  • The Outbound Warehouse Manager will communicate directly with the Transportation Manager regarding forecasted monthly volume and ensure level loading based on days in the month and trouble-shooting incorrectly routed orders.

  • Ensure all outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage.

  • Oversee all outbound staffing needs to successfully adhere to departure schedules.

  • Manage and coordinate the most efficient loading of outbound shipments, orderly pallet building, and securing of products in accordance with the highest possible levels of outbound trailer quality, while maintaining cost effective staffing models.

  • Manage communication when problems occur. Responsible for the cross communication between shifts, departments, customers and vendors when necessary.

  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly warehouse.

  • Follow all SOP’s ensuring proper safety practices are maintained at all times.

  • Maintain the efficient and safe operation of all material handling equipment.

  • Ensure Team Members follow all safety policies and procedures. Thoroughly investigate and report all safety accidents and violations in a timely manner. Conduct operations in accordance with OSHA.

  • Manage productivity of Selectors, Forklift and other functions within the department.

  • Manage new hires and Team Members in progression, coaching, mentoring and consistently training in a constructive and educational manner to develop them for success.

  • Direct the operations of the assigned shift to achieve prescribed objectives. Drive all operations in a manner consistent with service and cost objectives.

  • Conduct shift meetings. Conduct staff meetings to relay general information or to address specific topics, such as safety.

  • Plan work schedules and assign duties to maintain adequate staff for effective performance of activities and response to fluctuating workloads. Anticipate variances in staff and workload.

  • Prepare and maintain work records and reports of information such as employee time and wages, daily shipments, and/or productivity results.

  • Collaborate with Team Members, Supervisors and Managers to solve work-related problems.

  • Evaluate Team Member performance and prepare performance appraisals.

  • Counsel Team Members in work-related activities, personal growth, or career development.

  • Recommend or initiate personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, or disciplinary measures. Be visible and accessible on the warehouse floor.

  • Assess training needs of Team Members and arrange for or provide appropriate instruction.

  • Schedule and instruct staff on SOP process and expectation.

  • Resolve personnel problems, complaints, or grievances when possible, or refer them to higher-level Managers for resolution.

Other duties as requested.


  • High school diploma or GED

  • Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain, or related field preferred

  • Two (2) years or more of experience in logistics, warehouse or industry related field

  • Two (2) years or more of supervisory experience

  • Three (3) years or more of problem solving skills experience, use of formal Root Cause Countermeasure Systems preferred

  • Ability to:

  • Prioritize and organize work, along with strong follow-up, analytical, problem solving and sound decision making skills

  • Effectively communicate in both verbal and written forms with customers, employees, peers and management, Ability to effectively communicate in both verbal and written forms with customers, employees, peers and management

  • Intermediate computer skills

  • Exposure to Lean principles, systems and tools (beginner level) preferred

  • Knowledge of:

  • Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) (intermediate level) preferred

  • Material handling equipment may be required based on position (intermediate level) preferred

  • OSHA (intermediate level)

  • DOT and Hazmat (intermediate level) may be required based on the account preferred


• Communicate daily/shift goal of facility and group(s); devise, communicate and implement plans to obtain operational goals; work with and motivate employees to ensure goal achievement; provide progress or constraint updates to management and implement corrective measures as needed

• Provide leadership for employees through in depth training and continuous review of employee understanding of policies, procedures and processes; create a productive work environment through effective communication, coaching, motivating and leading by example

• Identify and/or solve operational issues with the account(s) by implementing continuous improvement and LEAN initiatives, to strengthen team unity, goals, productivity and results

• Hire, train and supervise Leads, Customer Logistics Supervisors (CLS), and/or hourly employees in the assigned work group(s)

• Support and aid in the development of system and process training for employees in the work group(s); perform administrative functions to include tracking of time, attendance and performance feedback

• Instruct and enforce location safety management plans, training and processes

• Assign employees to individual tasks and ensure required tools are available

• Perform other duties as assigned
