SUMMARY

The Payroll Administration Manager role has oversight of the centralized payroll operations, for the respective country, reporting to Human Resources. They are responsible for the payroll preparation, processing, audit for all pay groups, which includes tax administration, payroll accounting, workers compensation filings and employee/manager inquiry resolution. Involvement with special projects as needed.

The individual selected for this position will work virtually and will be responsible for management, support and training of staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manage the end to end payroll operations, for the respective country, ensuring payrolls are completed/paid and tax files submitted by stated deadlines

  • Manage and coordinate legislatively required payroll tax updates and Workday system Releases to the Payroll system. Ensure changes are properly tested and migrated successfully into production

  • Supervise month end close and ensure payroll liabilities (withholding orders, taxes, union dues) are properly reported, booked in the G/L and paid. This includes the review of journal entries prepared as part of the close, account reconciliations, system checks and other closing related procedures including severance calculations

  • Oversee/manage the preparation, filing and payments of Workers Compensation premiums across Canada, including Quebec

  • Oversee/manage the preparation, filing and payments of annual year end payroll tax filings as well as the compilation of all the required elements to generate accurate T4’s, T4A’s and Releve-1’s. This includes on-line filing of the tax forms with Canada Revenue Agency and Revenu Quebec

  • Drive process improvements to deliver greater efficiency across payroll operations and systems working with internal team members, and vendors to implement

  • Drive standardization of documentation for operational policies and procedures to streamline the payroll input, balancing and validation process

  • Provide customer service/support to the field locations including required reporting for analysis of payroll expenses and other employee related Payroll and tax inquiries

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in internal and external audits, as requested

  • Participate in release updates of the Workday HR/Payroll system – review and testing

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Accounting

EXPERIENCE

Five (5) years or more experience In a lead payroll position

SKILLS

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Demonstrates analytical skills.

Effective leadership skills.

Ability to create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of the organization (peers, work groups, customers, supervisors).

Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Capable of multi-tasking, highly organized, with excellent time management skills.

Detail oriented with excellent follow-up practices

Speak/Write French Language preferred

KNOWLEDGE

Workday Payroll/HR (intermediate level) preferred

Knowledge of MS Excel (advanced level) and MS PowerPoint (intermediate level)

LICENSES

Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) preferred
